Music Connects People

I have mentioned once or twice on this site before
about how Music connects people.

Or at the very least
people with similar music preference.

Music is universal and readily available
But it still has an acquired taste.

You will not join a music fan club that does not fit your liking.
And you favor the interaction with other people
who likes the same type of Genre that you enjoy.

Then they become your friends or connections,
even if you haven’t really met them in person.

Music connects people.
Music is the bridge that makes that happen.

In saying that,
I would like to tell you another proof that solidifies that statement.

As you may have noticed,
I get comments from people from time to time.
Mostly from relatives and from personal friends.
I sometimes do get comments and feedbacks
from people I have never even met.

I have made new friends
and met great acquaintances through this site,
which would have never been possible if they do not like
nor relate to the music I listen to or the music I try to play.

I wouldn’t have known who they are at all.

One person in particular made an effort to message me and introduce himself.
His name is Joey Velasco.
Apparently we both have Don Bosco as our Alma Mater
even though we are years apart.

We both have been touched by the music we learned while in that school.
He praised me on one song I covered and told me how much he loved it ever since his younger days
and asked if he can have a copy.
He also asked me to cover another one of our old songs, and I surely did.

I sent him the music files along with my sincerest thanks.

We exchanged a couple of emails as I found out more about him.

He is an artist as well and painting was his passion.
His works are mostly of Religious influence.
And I must say that his visions are brought to life through his paintings
to make you stop, think and reflect.

I have told him how I admired his works and how beautifully captivating they are.
I wouldn’t have known that if we haven’t been connected by a single song.

He even offered to send me one of his works,
just because he liked the way I made his favorite religious tune.

Earlier this week,
I found out that Mr. Velasco passed away.
I didn’t know him personally and we didn’t even meet.
But we have crossed paths in this lifetime and I am grateful for that.

An artist that is worthy of great recognition.
A man with some extraordinary talent,
took the time to cross the bridge,
just to let one simple amateur musician know,
how glad he was that he was able to listen to the music he once loved.

I am sharing this personal story to you,
because I truly believe in the power of music.
How we are all connected as one.

All we need to do is to hear it.

And maybe someday, with enough peace and understanding,
we will all live in one great musical harmony.
