CDI JAM (part 2)

Another weekend jam session with two great musicians.
Ryan Forsberg and Mike Wennerwald.
2 great guys that I work with.
MAN! These guys can play! (See November 16, 2001 Update)

Ryan brought his big ass amp that just totally made his playing even more crisp.
Mike, as always, with his amazing licks, made the session at his house even more enjoyable.

One good bonus though is Mike’s girlfriend Becky.
With a powerful voice and a great sense of humour, was just the perfect addition.

It is so enjoyable playing with them.
You know, real people who can really play.
I mean, I have played with a whole bunch of musicians, and very seldom where you get the opportunity
to play with someone who knows what they are doing but wants to have fun as well.

I have jammed with some who just plays just to show off.
Or one of those “I-can-do-this-and-I-can-do-it-fast kinda people”
Then looks at everybody to make sure they are watching.

I am no Carlos Santana, nor Django Reinheart,
but I think that is just sad.
They just totally missed the music.

Anyways, We played some classic tunes from Santana’s “Black Magic Woman”,
(which I just learned that morning),
and “The Girl From Ipanema” which Mike just taught us that day.
(My finger still feels weird Mike! I told you they were not meant to stretch that way).

We “did” record it this time and I will post it up as soon as we convert it to MP3’s.
Stay tuned..

A very sad day not just for Beatles fans,
but for music lovers everywhere.
Thanks George. For the Music, the Influence and the Passion.

Meteor Shower

Woke up at 5:30 in the morning today to watch the meteor shower.
Holy Mother of Crap! That must have been the coolest thing I have ever seen.

Tracy, Nimbus and I, were all out on our balcony,
freezing our morning glories, staring at the sky.

We must have seen at least 30 meteor light shows.
It was a bit cloudy though, but it was one hell of a show.
I felt so lucky seeing it.
(Scratch that off the “Wish list”)
Maybe I get to watch the next one in 2099.

What else happened this weekend….hmmmmm.
Oh yeah!!!!
My friends beware….
I am in the process of re-training my insides to get used to alcohol.
YESSSS!!
A-L-K-A-H-A-L!!!

Grabbed a couple of wines and beer from the store,
and had some last night while watching some rented movies…
mmmmmmmm…easy..and..smooth..

Now if I could only train my body for lactose tolerance,
I’ll be all set!

CDI Jam

These past few weeks has been crazy at work.
Paperworks are coming out of our yin-yang.
Plus we are going to be audited next week…so…no pressure added.
Anyways,
I better stop there..coz I might be able to say something that I may regret.

Ryan Forsberg, Michael Wennerwald and myself
have agreed to have a little “after school hours” Jam.
At work, in the Lab.

I haven’t jammed in a while
so they didn’t have to twist my arm.
I am so in!

Ryan, one of our excellent Programming Instructors,
can slap that BASS guitar like a red-headed stepchild.
I mean he does that “Seinfeld Segway” Bass guitar slap like you wouldn’t believe.
He plays them classic diminished notes that if he were just to make them up,
I’ll still believe him.

Mike is our new guy in the Network Side.
He has that fat 70’s tone that I have always wanted. (God, I miss my Strat)
Heavily influenced by Jimmy Page,
he rocked the whole jam with classic blues licks.

We started out the jam with simple blues.
All the way to fast melodic rock,
a jazzy touch by Ryan,
all the way to a rock version of Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean,
to a busy “Carol of the Bells” Christmas song.
And even the Bell phone commercial internet Jam.
It was a pretty good jam for the boys who just want to have fun.

(Ryan please tell me we got rid of the alcohols, beer
I mean …refreshments.)

13 Ghosts

I just saw this movie called 13 Ghosts
….and I must say ..it spooked me pretty good.

I love scary movies…I really do.
But it has to have a good balance.
I mean scary enough to make me look around when I am in the bathroom,
but not twisted enough that I spend the whole time deciphering it.

A couple of stuff that I wanted to share though…regarding watching movies.

How come no matter where I sit,
I always end up sitting right beside the most talkative guy in the theater?

No matter where you sit,
the back of your chair will always be kicked.

If you go to the Matinee screening times,
you always end up watching the movie with acne popping, attention deprived,
hormone raging teenagers, like the ones you see at McDonald’s after school.

And lastly,
PLEASE do not bring your children to watch an Adult movie,
not to mention horror ones….
Geezz! Traumatize them for life why don’t you?

I know this because I saw “The Exorcist” with my folks,
and yes..it scared the hell out of me.

Okay….that’s it.
I better go to bed.
It’s pretty late.
And that kid in “The Shining” won’t leave my mind.

STYX

It’s sad sometimes when you tell a friend you are going to see a concert.
Then you tell them who you’re going to see…and they are like…“WHO?”

Anyways….I do not care.
All I know is that, I love this band!
And I am going to have a good time.

This is the second time I have seen Styx in concert.
Both in Ottawa. Both in the same venue.
And both turned out to be a one hell of a show.

Light shows and effects was just half of it.
The music kept me singing all the way through.
It is just so amazing how you see them play their songs live,
the way you hear them on the CD.
I mean I never thought it was even possible to play those songs live.

I don’t care if Styx is an old band.
I don’t care if their songs don’t play on the radio anymore.
I don’t care if Tommy Shaw reminds me of David Spade..
Styx ranks very high on my list.

Allanah Myles opened up for them.
And Lord….bless her heart…
if she would have just relaxed and sing her songs
instead of trying very hard to be sexy and funny
or at least try to remember the words and the notes of the song.
Because it’s either she is a half step flat, or we are sitting too far.

I mean she looked pretty good with that Blood red cocktail (mini) dress,
but when you sit like a trucker, it doesn’t really appeal as a legendary Diva.

There was one point when she sang “Black Velvet”,
where she was trying to be very sexy, slowly sitting down,….

then BAM!!!

..she lost her balance and hit the floor like a drunken co-worker
on your company’s Christmas party.

Anyways….
The way STYX performed made us forget everything.
They played every song like it was their last.
God, how I wish I could give that 100 percent to every music that I play.
Maybe I need more inspiration…..
Maybe…I need more alcohol.

Happy Halloween

You know it’s pretty cool this “trick or treat” gig for kids.
The only time of year they go crazy with candies, chocolates and tooth decay.
Though recently, you don’t see kids dressed up as classic ghosts, ghouls and monsters.
Nope…no more Dracula…Frankenstein…or the Prime Minister.
They all dress up as their favorite Disney character…or a Tele Tubbie..
or some sailor from the moon.
I don’t know….seems like something went wrong somewhere.

But what do I know…I grew up with no Halloween.
There are no walking around in scary costumes asking for candies in the Philippines
(coz that would be every saturday night).
I totally do not know how excited a kid can be this time of year.

Buuuutttt..let me tell you what we do on halloween back home.

All the kids go together singing “Soul” songs.
I am not talking about “Aretha Franklin gut belting Soul tunes”.
I mean… Soul of the dead songs.
One that goes,
“The soul of the dead are coming, they walk the streets, they would enter your homes,
scare the hell out of you, empty your fridge, and use your bathroom.”

No it doesn’t really go that way, but it would have been more fun if it did.

Anyways, as I was saying.
We go from house to house, singing songs of the dead,
and they give us MONEY!!!

Oh yeah!
By the time we circle the whole block,
we have enough money to wipe out the nearest convenience store of their “The Bar Gin and Tonic” drink.

See?
Who needs all those candies and seeing costumed people walk the streets?
by the 3rd bottle …everybody looked funny and scary already.

Oh! To be a kid again.

I just read that last rant I did.

Makes you smile after a hard days work…..PRICELESS

I do not understand

I do not understand how this world is so unfair.
Hate and anger lurks inside my heart.
Lord sweet Jesus….please help me…one of these days….I do not know what to do.

I do not understand.

There are so many things to be done that you can’t do.
Things you want but you can’t have.
Time that you need but you do not have enough.
Time that you have but you can’t spend.
Songs that you can’t sing.
Music that you can’t play.
Knowledge that you can’t learn.
Food you can’t eat.
Clothes you can’t wear.
Words you can’t swear.
People who won’t accept you.
Things you have to go through.
The more you try, the more it’s not enough.
The more you think you are brave, you realize how scared you are.
The more smart you think you are, the more stupid you know you look.
Sunrise and sunsets you haven’t seen.
Grass you haven’t walked barefoot on.
Butterflies you can’t catch.
Flowers you haven’t smelled.
Places you haven’t been.
Movies you haven’t seen.
Nights you haven’t slept.
Tears you haven’t wept.
Rain you haven’t bathed in.
Words you wished you said but you didn’t.
Thoughts you have you wish would leave.
Friends you have are a million miles away.
People you love actually hates you.
People you haven’t met.
Sometimes you wish you never did.
Laughter that dies before it leaves your breath.
Anger that won’t come out.
Headaches you can’t bear.
Books you haven’t read.
Prayers you haven’t said.

I do not understand this cruel world we live in. Why is the glass half empty?
Why me? Why now? Why?

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up,
but why should I give up when it all seems so stupid. – Depeche Mode

Yeah you know what I am talking about!

Back to the grind

Vacation is over – Back to the grind.

Well….that’s it.
Back to work tomorrow.
Spent my whole vacation doing absolutely nothing!

I didn’t go away….no travel…no stress.
All rejuvenated for more productivity
…hahahahaaaaaaaa…… I can’t wait for the long weekend.

I also would like to thank all my good friends who have checked out this site.
I have gotten so many hits that if I would have to put ads and banners,
I would have earned enough money to buy this.
