Katrina’s waves

How come I haven’t written anything
here about the disaster in New Orleans?

Well.
Three reasons.

First,
You don’t care

Second,
I am slow.
But not as slow as the president’s response
to the disaster struck areas.

And third,
I have a hard time wrapping my head around how
this has gotten so bad.
Where it was clear that there were a number of opportunities
that this calamity could have been minimized, if not prevented.

Was everything that was supposed to be implemented
days before the hurricane hit,
actually put into action?

My heart goes out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina,
and may the ones who perished find peace and rest.

But people need not worry anymore.
Things are going to get better.
Why?
Because that rap guy Kanye West knows all the solution to this problem.
He seem to be an expert when it comes to adding more hatred,
right in the midst of suffering and confusion.
How come this guy still hasn’t got his “I am stupid” award?

You know, he’s not the only one that is deeply affected by these events,
but he just had to go and play the “Race” card on such difficult times.
Way to go, Kanye.
Way to go.

People like this guy are the reason
“Racism” is alive and well in America.

And why am I still seeing Kanye performing at events
even after his remarks about President Bush?
Didn’t he perform at the NFL season opening?
And I think MTV and VH1 are still airing his videos.

If my memory serves me right,
Not too long ago,
An all female group, that goes by the name of The Dixie Chicks,
said something awful about the same President.

And immediately,
the group’s entire CD albums were boycotted,
banned from the radiowaves,
and ridiculed by everyone,
which pretty much destroyed their careers.

But not Mr. West.

Why?
You tell me why.

Because I am really getting confused about
who’s benefiting with the “double standard
in this country.

I am slow, remember?

Although, one thing I am certain of,
in response to Mr. West’s accusation about the President.

I think, President Bush cares about black people,
as much as Kanye West cares about white people.

There.
I said it.

Come to think of it,
President Bush doesn’t care about what I said here too.

If you can’t afford to donate and help,
please say a prayer for the victims of this misfortune.

  1. I have been waiting for your thoughts on the hurricane, you must have had a calm day when you wrote this, not your usual stuff about the crappy President and government mess-ups. Who in the hell is this West guy, never heard of him, but he needs to go (bleep – bleep).

    Later,
    Mom.

  2. People who buy Kayne West probaly agree with him a lot more than most folks who buy Dixie Chicks albums agreed with their outspoken lead singer. I think that’s why there’s no “Boycott!” cry.

And racism will be in America until the day comes when white folks can hear things like Kayne West said, and first think if there’s any merit to what he’s saying before we (yeah, I’m white) make the claim the obsurd reverse racism.

He chose the wrong forum. No doubt about that. And perhaps the bigger point is that George Bush doesn’t care about the people of New Orleans (regular Americans). But we’re fooling ourselves if we think those who were foolishly called by Wolf Blitzer “so poor and so black” (where’s the outcry about that!) are getting the same treatment, a lot of other folks would have gotten for being whiter and/or richer.

  3. It’s quite sad that certain people are not in the government’s priority list.
And when I say government, I mean the rich, white corporations who really run this country.
Be that as it may, You are right and I agree. The main concern at that point where Mr. West expressed his anger, was to help the victims first.
Not the best time to start something very touchy, in the midst of confusion, pain, suffering and even death.
It’s very sad that the issue of Racism always has to come out, even at worst times, and there would always be people basking in it.
