Have you guys seen the movie Ratatouille?
That part where the Food Critic finally tasted the dish
and it suddenly brought him back to a childhood memory?
Let me just share something with you.
Back in the summer,
When we had record breaking heat waves here in Florida,
I was driving home, drinking a soda pop and eating
some chocolates. (Don’t judge me)
The ones I didn’t finish, I set them by the cup holders.
So of course, they melted by the time I got home.
They all have gotten soft and mushy.
So the logical thing for me to do was to put them in the fridge so
that I can enjoy them at a later time.
Because as we all know, one rule about chocolates is that
“You do not let any of it go to waste.”
Hours later,
I had one of them snack cravings.
(As you may have noticed from my appearance, I have a lot of those.)
So I happily skipped to the fridge, remembering what I have in there.
As soon as I took a bite of that cold piece of chocolate bar,
I suddenly realized not only does it taste better,
but it kind of brought me back to a simpler, happier time.
Back when I was a kid.
I guess, I had that moment.
That “Ratatouille” moment.
Ok maybe not in the exact sense,
But it did make me remember a part of my childhood.
You see when we were growing up in Manila,
with its well known Hot Summer Seasons.
Me and my cousins all get together during our school break.
And oftentimes, we have family from the States who would come back to visit.
And of course they would bring us all chocolates.
Imported, foreign chocolates!
And since we all want our share to last and not let it melt from the heat,
we write our names on the wrapper and save it all in the fridge.
We were determined to savour them as long as we could.
Me and my cousins, enjoying each other’s companionship.
Sharing stories, laughters, jokes and such.
Munching on every candy bar like Halloween was going out of style.
No wonder I preferred eating them cold.
It reminds me of those happy times.
Cold chocolates make me remember the loving warmth of our family.
And I just remembered I have one last Kit Kat bar in the fridge.
So, I guess this post has to end now.
See ya!
